Round two of the Golden Homes GT New Zealand Championship is officially in full force.

Following a gripping opening round at Highlands Motorsport Park last month, round two of the Golden Homes GT New Zealand Championship is officially in full force. Drivers having now crossed the finish line for their qualifiers and first races of the weekend, and the chase continuing tomorrow at Hampton Downs with a 16-car field in the GT4 Class.

Day one was a humid and drizzly day on the circuit for the practice rounds, but day two’s heat quickly dried the track for drivers as the skies cleared up.

Day two saw Todd Bawden drive to the top of the podium for the first race of the GT4 class inside his McLaren 570S, followed by the Porsche Cayman of Grant Aitken in second and Brent Forman within a McLaren in third, after what was an intense 30-minute battle on the circuit.

Each round of the GT NZ Championship features two 30-minute races along with one 60-minute race with a compulsory pit stop. There is the option to have one or two drivers per car with the 60-minute race also worth double points. To ensure correspondence in each of the different classes of racing, there is a Balance of Performance criteria added to each of the races. The balance of performance is implemented during the compulsory pit stop and the length of pit stop is determined using qualifying times as well as prior race results.

The Golden Homes GT NZ Championship will continue tomorrow with the 60-minute race in the morning and the 30-minute later in the day.

Coverage of the action-packed variety of classes, including the GT New Zealand Championship will be broadcast live tomorrow on Sky Sport from 8:30am and TV3 live from 1:00pm.
