Carina Doyle has been aiming for the Commonwealth Games for as long as she can remember.  After narrowly missing out on the last games, due to an ankle injury requiring over a year of intensive rehab and training, Carina will now be heading to the Gold Coast to represent New Zealand.

Three days before Christmas, Carina got the Christmas gift she had been waiting for; she had qualified for the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay Team. Individually Carina qualified for 3 events; the 100, 200 and 400 metre freestyle. Qualifying for the team event in addition to the individuals did not come easy; training for for 9 sessions a week for up to 2 hours, along with an intensive gym workout 3 times a week. Carina?s hard work has now paid off.

Proudly wearing the silver fern, Carina is lucky enough to have her grandparents, parents and two of her siblings make the trip to the Gold Coast, where the games are being held this year. Carina is most excited about the village atmosphere, seeing the calabare of other athletes and learning from the best. ?The New Zealand team is such a big family and it will be an experience I will never forget, says Carina.?

Golden Homes are extremely proud of Carina, who they support along with other fellow swimmers with the Golden Homes Swim Scholarship. Golden Homes wish her all the best for the Commonwealth Games and look forward to celebrating her achievements.
